“I’m back,” were Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s first words waking up from his heart surgery.
It’s difficult to miss the poetic release in it, as “I’ll be back” is a catchphrase that will forever be associated with the veteran action star. He uses the line (or some close variation of it) in almost all of his movies.
The 70-year-old had to undergo heart surgery in order to replace a pulmonary valve that was last replaced 20 years ago. The surgery took place in a hospital in Los Angeles, California, on March 29. Now, Schwarzenegger is in a stable condition and is promptly recovering from the surgery.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s spokesman told the press that the pulmonary valve replacement he received in 1997 had already exceeded its service life:
“That 1997 replacement valve was never meant to be permanent, and has outlived its life expectancy, so he chose to replace it yesterday through a less-invasive catheter valve replacement,” Daniel Ketchell told the press.
This is good news for the friends and fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has also taken up bodybuilding and activism on top of gaining success in filmmaking.
Impressively, the man was also able to leave his mark in politics, having been elected a governor of California in 2003 and 2006, as a registered Republican.
It is quite a feat for someone who wasn’t even born in America. See, Arnold is actually an Austrian native who found success in California.
Still, Schwarzenegger’s flourishing career was marred with numerous counts of purported unwanted sexual advances on women, all of which he denied.
“He declares that most of the allegations are untrue but says that he apologizes “if I offended anyone, because that was not my intention,” he told CNN.
