Every year, people who receive a pension from the Social Security System (SSS) in the Philippines are required to accomplish the Annual Confirmation of Pensioners (ACOP). This application is used to ensure that the pensioner is still alive and authorized to receive the benefits.
Facebook user Janna Cortez Garcia took to a particular Facebook page "Pinoy Scandal" to detail the story of Nanay Estella and her daughter.
Janna first encountered the woman, who was carrying her mother in a jeep. Nanay Estella Sarmiento, 82 years old, living in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite. The mother and daughter were off to the Social Security System to personally accomplish the Annual Confirmation of Pensioners (ACOP).
Nanay Estella's daughter had to carry her to the SSS Office because they don't have a wheelchair.
“Wala daw silang wheel chair dahil wala daw silang pangbili at wala din daw tumutulong sa kanila. Hindi rin daw nila alam ang sakit ni nanay dahil wala silang pera pang pahospital at wala din daw sila pinaiinum na gamot dahil wala din daw po silang pangbili.”The woman admitted that they don't have money to buy a wheelchair. In fact, they can't buy Nanay Estella, her medicines and can't take her to the hospital because they don't have enough money.
Nanay Estella's daughter hopes that someone (perhaps a Television Network) may see their plight and help them.
But on the other side, Nanay Estella doesn't actually have to go to SSS or Bank personally. Disabled pensioners don't have to physically present themselves, at the bank or the SSS Office though it may require some additional requirements.
